GLP-1 Agonist Drugs: Prices, Doses and Scams

GLP-1 Drug Pricing: A Comprehensive Look at Wegovy Costs

GLP-1 drugs, such as Wegovy, can be highly effective for weight loss but come with a hefty price tag. To give you a clear understanding of the costs involved, we have outlined the advertised prices for Wegovy if purchased from CVS. Each price listed below covers a 28-day supply, which includes four pens (syringes) for weekly injections:

  • 0.25mg dose: $1391

  • 0.5mg dose: $1391

  • 1.0 mg dose: $1391

  • 1.7mg dose: $1391

  • 2.4mg dose (maximum dose): $1391

These high costs may be prohibitive for many patients. However, Novo Nordisk, the manufacturer of Wegovy, offers a $500 discount per month for patients paying the full price, reducing the total monthly cost to just under $900.

Saxenda

Saxenda, another GLP-1 drug currently approved for weight loss, has a similar price structure to Wegovy. The active ingredient in Wegovy, semaglutide, is also used in the diabetes medication Ozempic. The doses for treating diabetes are lower than those approved for obesity treatment, with Ozempic's prices (regardless of dose) averaging around $995 per month after all discounts are applied.

Considering the financial commitment, it's essential to ask yourself whether the GLP-1 drugs are worth the investment. The lowest price available for these medications is $900 per four weeks, or $11,700 per year. If money is not a concern, the benefits may outweigh the costs. However, for most people, the price is significant, and our Classic program offers nearly the same efficacy for a fraction of the cost. Ultimately, the decision lies in your hands, but it's important to consider all aspects before making a choice.

GLP-1 Scams: Be Aware and Stay Safe

As GLP-1 drugs for weight loss gain attention in the media and on social platforms, numerous scams have emerged, targeting unsuspecting individuals. These scams can take several forms, and it's crucial to be aware of them to protect yourself.

"Wegovy for $99" scams:

Online advertisements may claim to offer GLP-1 drugs like Wegovy for an unbelievably low price, such as $99. However, these ads are misleading. Instead of receiving the medication, you are provided with a prescription for it after paying the fee. Furthermore, this fee must be paid every month, in addition to the actual cost of Wegovy.

"Compounded Semaglutide" scam:

In this scheme, you are offered what is purported to be "compounded" generic semaglutide. The issue here is that no generic semaglutide is currently approved for human use in the US. The substance being sold is either not semaglutide or not FDA-approved semaglutide, making it a fraudulent and potentially dangerous product. Do not allow anyone to inject you with so-called 'generic' or 'compounded' semaglutide, as it is both illegal and hazardous to your health.

By staying informed and vigilant, you can protect yourself from falling victim to these scams. Always consult with a medical professional and seek reliable sources for purchasing medications.
