These meats have a high environmental impact because ruminant animals produce significant amounts of methane, a potent greenhouse gas, and the land and water requirements for raising these animals are also high.

2. Locally-Sourced Foods: Eating local food is another key principle of the Climatarian Diet. This is because food that has to travel long distances contributes significantly to greenhouse gas emissions. By buying local, the transportation and associated carbon emissions are minimized.

3. Seasonal Eating: The diet encourages eating foods that are in season. Foods grown out of season often require more resources to grow and transport, increasing their environmental impact.

4. Minimize Food Waste: Climatarians aim to reduce food waste as much as possible, which means buying only what they need, using leftovers, and composting food scraps.

5. Sustainable Seafood: Seafood choices should be sustainable and avoid overfished species.

6. Lower Dairy Consumption: Dairy farming, similar to meat production, has a high environmental impact. Thus, the Climatarian Diet encourages reducing dairy consumption.

7. Plant-Based Foods: Eating a predominantly plant-based diet is another aspect of the Climatarian approach. Plant-based foods generally have a lower carbon footprint compared to animal-based foods.
