Small retail shops selling expensive bottles of powders, shakes, pills and capsules for weight loss and body building have become a cottage industry in the US. Because many of these businesses are locally owned, they are not always subject to the jurisdiction of the FDA and are therefore able to make false claims for their products without fear of consequences. And many DO indeed lie to the public.
If you hear a radio advertisement for a weight loss product sold at a local specialty shop that sounds far too good to be true, guess what....
Usually the products sold in these sorts of stores are overpriced bottles and bags of dirt-cheap when protein with a few other additives.
